Anna Duboc channels a light and mischievous pop-rock energy on latest single “Boy Next Door,” a vibrant production that allows us to have fun with the idea of growing up. Trading introspection for celebration, the track layers bright guitars, catchy rhythms and soaring vocals to create a world that feels transitional and joyous all at once.
Offering a peek at her forthcoming EP Once in a Blue Moon, a seven-track project that journeys through the uncertainties of figuring out who you are underpinned by thoughtful explorations of relatable topics spanning heartbreak, complicated relationships, addiction and the uncertainty of early adulthood. Shaped during Duboc’s move from high school into college, the project which reflects the quiet but overwhelming evolution of her identity and artistry is one that strikes a chord with its innate resonate.
While most of the project hones in on the vulnerabilities of growing up, “Boy Next Door,” with its jangly pop-rock instrumentation is a showcase of the lighter, more colourful notes of Duboc’s musicality, laden with the reminder that growing up doesn’t always have to be so heavy.
Speaking of the message behind the track and EP, Duboc says, “I want people to hear their own stories in the lyrics. I hope it helps to know that they are not
alone. I also hope to share me new developing musical sound as an artist.”
An evolving talent whose hands-on approach extends beyond songwriting to include her skills in music engineering as well as recording and arranging her background vocals, Duboc unfurls her expansive range with her latest offering.
